I am intrigued by snapshots and newspaper photos of groups of people. Taken out of context the relations among the people and their activities are ambiguous. Using one of these found photos I invent my own story as I paint, often changing gender, race, and placement as the story evolves for me. I leave it to the viewer to ask "What is going on there?" and invent their own narrative.
I have a PhD in Biomathematics and was Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Washington. My training in art was at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle WA. I am forever indebted to my mentor Charles Emerson, a great colorist and gifted teacher.
